Abstract
A process for the separation of trans, trans-farnesylacetic acid from an isomeric mixture thereof with cis, trans-farnesylacetic acid or from a trans, trans/cis, trans isomeric mixture of farnesylacetic acid esters, which comprises converting the isomeric mixture of the acids or esters into a corresponding isomeric mixture of alkali metal salts of the acids, separating the alkali metal salt of the trans, trans-farnesylacetic acid by recrystallisation from an organic solvent and acidifying said alkali metal salt of trans, trans-farnesylacetic acid to give trans, trans-farnesylacetic acid.
