Abstract

A transmission belt comprises an annular body (1) of generally trapezoidal transverse cross-section, in which there is embedded a plurality of cords (2). Plates (5,5, 6,6) are attached to opposite sidewalls of the annular body. The plates are made from a material having a high coefficient of friction so as to enhance the contact between the transmission belt and the pulleys of a transmission system. The plates can conveniently be made from a material of the type used in brake and clutch systems. The belt is especially suitable for use in a variable-speed transmission system.
