Abstract

The invention relates to the cooling system for a nuclear reactor cooled by a liquid metal such as sodium. The cold liquid metal is introduced through a supply space 52 between the main vessel 10 and a shell 50 and a discharge space 58 is provided between the shell 50 and a baffle 56. A number of liquid flow devices E are located in discharge space 58, being regularly distributed over the inner surface 62 of shell 50. Each device E comprises a vertical duct 100 having its top end 102 near the top edge 54 of the shell 50 and its bottom end 104 below the minimum level of the liquid metal in the discharge space 58, the duct 100 being produced with holes 108 for limiting the flow rate of the metal.
