Abstract

This invention concerns an apparatus for detecting the presence of a molten glass gob as it enters into a mould of a glassware forming machine. The hot gob emits radiation in the visual infrared spectrum which is perceived by a phototransistor. The phototransistor responds by generating an electrical signal which is compared with the magnitude of a threshold voltage to generate a detection signal. The detection signal can then be used to adjust the timing of the individual section in accordance with the actual arrival of the gob at the mould, rather than doing this in accordance with the time it takes for the gob to form plus the estimated time it takes to arrive at the mould, as has been done in the previous technique. When the mould includes two or more cavities, the detection signs coming from a separate detector for each cavity can be put in inverted logic function Y to indicate when the last gob has arrived.
