Abstract

An improved process for the recovery of valuable amounts of lead from a lead-containing and sulfur-containing source, comprising the steps of: (a) halogenating said lead-bearing source, at an elevated temperature, (b) washing the halogenated mixture,º leaching the washed mixture with brine, (d) filtering the resulting solution to remove elemental sulfur and residues from the soluble lead halide, and (e) recovering the desired lead contents, wherein the improvement comprises treating the lead halide soluble with a reducing agent, filter to separate the insoluble residue, then continue treating the soluble lead halide with an oxidizing agent and iron, and filter the solution to separate the insoluble residue, before recovering said lead contents.
