Abstract

A method of making a screw of corrosion-resistant steel and having hardened entering end portions including the steps of forming a screw of a suitable corrosion-resistant steel, forming on that part of the formed screw which is not to be hardened a substantially gas-impervious metallic layer, and subjecting the screw to a gas capable of reacting with the steel to produce a case hardening of the steel at that part of the screw which is to be hardened.
