Abstract

A waterproof coating for works of art in cement or pre-stressed concrete or metal, intended to receive a wear coating, comprises (a) a 0.5-6 kg/m2 layer of a thermosetting material, possibly contg. a filter, and (b) a 0.5-3 kg/m2 layer of a heat-fusible material at least partly compatible with (a) and with the hydrocarbon binder of the wear layer. In typical coatings of this kind there is no real bond between the waterproof coating and the wear layer, so that the latter tends to slide and crack under the effects of heavy traffic. Use of an intermed. layer of fine gravel to give a mechanical bond is not satisfactory. The method replaces this bond by a more effective physicochemical link.
