Abstract
Organosilicon cpds. are claimed comprising on organic molecular chain structure contg. >=1 silyl group contg. an (opt. substd.) alkoxy group. The silyl group pref. has the formula -SrR2X in which X is opt. substd. alkoxy and R is 1-4c alkyl, esp. methyl. Prods. are esp. useful as coupling agents between particulate fillers, esp. Si-contg. fillers such as SiO2 and a matrix polymer, e.g. of sulphur vulcanisable natural or synthetic rubbers. The organosilicon cpds. lower the viscosity of the polymer/filler mixes and improve the homogeneity of mixing whilst reducing the mixing time and the energy requirement for mixing. The vulcanised prods. have improved elasticity, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.
