Abstract
Process of preparing discrete, crosslinked, hard, copolymeric granules, characterized in that, being carried out by means of the polymerization of free radicals in an aqueous dispersion of a monomer mixture comprising from 50 to 99.5 mole percent of monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and 0 .5 to 50 mole percent of crosslinking monomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated active groups, said polymerization is conducted in the presence of one or more peroxy catalysts of the formula: ** (Formula) ** in which R1 is a branched alkyl of 3 to 12 carbon atoms and having a secondary or tertiary carbon bonded to the carbonyl group and x is 1 or 2 and, when x is 1, R2 is a branched alkyl radical containing a tertiary carbon attached to oxygen and, when x is 2, R2 is an alkylene or aralkylene group, ending in either case with tertiary carbon atoms attached to oxygen.
