Abstract
A process for obtaining a shaped article of a crosslinked polymer composition, said process comprising: (1) melt forming a composition comprising: (a) a polymer that can be crosslinked with the aid of an organic peroxide; (b) an organic peroxide; (c) a carbon-carbon unsaturation-containing compound, which cooperates with said peroxide, when heated by the composition, promoting the cross-linking of said polymer; and (d) a flame retardant containing bromine; said melt forming operation being carried out under conditions such that cross-linking of said composition is substantially prevented; and (2) heating said melt-shaped composition to effect cross-linking of the polymer; the absolute and relative amounts of said peroxide (b) and said compound (c) being such that the shaped article has an ipcea water absorption of less than 3%, and an m100 value of at least 2.8.
