A method for delaying the growth of cancer cells in a human patient, comprising the steps of: establishing a sterile extracorporeal blood circulation path, having an inlet, an outlet and a temperature control zone between them, establishing communication of the entry of said extracorporeal circulation path with the bloodstream of the patient so that the blood can be withdrawn and delivered to said extracorporeal circulation path without adversely affecting the circulation of the blood in the areas from which the blood is withdrawn, communicating the output of said extracorporeal circulation path with the patient's bloodstream, pumping blood withdrawn from the patient's bloodstream along said extracorporeal circulation path and returning it to the patient's bloodstream to be systematically distributed, controlled the temperature of the blood circulating along said extracorporeal circulation path and maintaining control of the temperature of the blood.
