Abstract
Liq. media have the following characteristics (i) no slow reversion of pH during study of sugar fermentation (ii) addn. of vaseline oil is unnecessary in media used to study sugar fermentation of enterobacteria, detection of urease or decarboxylases, or H2S prodn., (iii) the result is generally indicated directly by the colour of an internal indicator without addn. of special developers after incubation (iv) only 3-18 hrs. is required depending on type of bacteria and reaction (v) the tests can be performed in standard laboratory containers such as haemolysis tubes or well-plates for microtitrations, and (vi) final reactant vol. is 150-650 mu l of which 100-500 mu l is the identification broth. Used esp. for identification of enterobacteria in human or veterinary medicine or in the food industry.
