Abstract

A process for the catalytic reforming of a hydrocarbon feedstock in a multi-stage reactor system in which (1) the catalyst particles flow down, by gravity, through each reaction zone of said system, (2) the catalyst particles from a reaction zone are introduced into the next successive reaction zone, (3) the deactivated catalyst particles are removed from said system by the lower end of the last reaction zone, and (4) are introduced. New catalyst particles, or regenerated, by the upper end of the first reaction zone of said system, which method comprises the steps in sequence of: (a) reacting said charge material, in the absence of added hydrogen, in said last reaction zone from which the deactivated catalyst particles are removed from said system under conditions of catalytic reforming; (b) continuing to react the effluent of said last reaction zone in at least one intermediate reaction zone, under conditions of catalytic reforming; (c) continuing to react the effluent of said intermediate reaction zone in said first reaction zone, whereby fresh catalyst particles, or regenerated, are introduced into the system under conditions of catalytic reforming; and (d) recovering a catalytically reformed, normally liquid, product from the effluent removed from said first reaction zone; said process further being characterized in that said first reaction zone contains the largest amount of catalyst particles, and said last reaction zone contains the least amount of catalyst particles.
