Abstract

A method and its corresponding apparatus for separating residual material from an electrostatically recording surface, the method of which comprises: confining a mass of a solid, inert, soft and non-sticky material, which is substantially rigid at rest and which flows as a solid mass in response to the application of a low shear stress adjacent to the recording surface while a portion of the dough is in contact with the recording surface; and subjecting said material to a shear stress such that said material flows on and in contact with said recording surface so as to trap said matter particles within the material and thereby separate said matter particles from said surface.
