Abstract

A procedure for preparing a 3- (NRCH3) -Qn-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazole having the formula I **(See formula)** where R is hydrogen or methyl; and Qn is 6-fluoro, 8-fluoro, 6,7-difluoro or 6,8-difluoro; or an acidic addition salt thereof, characterized by (a) reacting a compound having formula II **(See formula)** wherein Q'n is 2-fluoro, 4-fluoro, 3,4-difluoro or 2,4-difluoro, with a compound having the formula III (b) reacting a compound having the formula **(See formula)** where Y is halogen or Z-SO2-O and Z is an organic radical, with an amine of the formula HNRCH3; or (c) a compound having formula IX is reduced **(See formula)** wherein in each case R is hydrogen or methyl and Qn is 6-fluoro, 8-fluoro, 6,7-difluoro or 6,8-difluoro, and, if desired, convert a obtained basic compound to an acid addition salt .
