Abstract
Coupler for connecting two scaffold tubes together, of the type comprising a central body provided on opposite sides thereof with a tube receiving seat, the seats of which are relatively arranged so that both tubes are connected to each other in mutually perpendicular relation, being said body provided, on each of its opposite sides and next to each seat, with a pair of joint lugs integral with said body, one of the two ears of each pair hinged to it having one end of one of two securing jaws of the tubes and the other of the two ears of each pair forming an articulated support for the head of a T-shaped retaining bolt, whose threaded stem supports a nut intended to engage the other free end of one of the two jaws, the two ears of each pair being arranged on diametrically opposite sides of their respective seat, each articulating ear of the bolt presenting, on its opposite side to the rod Through its associated bolt, an open inlet hole that is elongated in a direction parallel to the articulation axis of the associated jaw to accommodate the head of the bolt, said inlet or mouth of the hole being adjacent to one of the two tubes, making to which it is directed, the other of these two tubes being retained by the bolt inside said hole, each bolt being placed on said body by inserting its stem firstly through the open entrance of its hole, so that the latter accommodates at least part of the bolt head adjacent to one of said tubes, each bolt being removable, for substitution purposes, through the entrance or mouth of its associated hollow, said coupler being characterized in that the elongated and opposite sides of each receiving hole of the head of the bolt is relatively inclined, in a position adjacent to the entrance of said hole, one with respect to the other in the direction of said entrance, each one of these entrances presenting a width, in an average position of its length, sufficiently greater than the length of the bolt head to allow the ends of the same to be coupled to said relatively inclined sides of the entrance of the recess, and said sides presenting such relative inclination, towards the interior of the entrance of the hollow, that, with the bolt partially withdrawn from the hollow, with its stem extended vertically in a downward direction from the head and with the latter substantially at right angle with the length of the hollows lengthened, if the coupler is manually shaken, the resulting reaction between at least one of the two referred inclined sides and the adjacent end of the bolt head causes said head to rotate around the shaft axis, allowing such head to fall from the bolt under the weight of this to its correct position inside the hole.
