Abstract
An improved method of preparing a synthetic coffee mill gas flavor by forming a mercaptan product, characterized in that methyl-mercaptan is reacted at a temperature of 5ºC to 40ºC with a molar excess of carbonyl compounds comprising a a mixture of acetone, acetaldehyde, a butyraldehyde and a lower α-diketone alkane to produce a hemimercaptal and a hemimercaptol.
