A procedure for the preparation of 1-substituted 3-phenylpyrrolidines having the formula: **(See formula)** where R is selected from the group consisting of amino, amidino, carbamoyl, N-phenylcarbamoyl, N, N-diphenylcarbamoyl, N-lower alcohol-thiocarbamoyl, lower alkynyl, 1,4-benzodioxan-2-yl-lower alcohol, 1, 2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-quinolylcarbonyl, 1-indolinylcarbonyl, N-lower alcohol-N-phenylcarbamoyl, and N-hydrazinocarbonyl, R1 is selected from the group consisting of lower alcohol, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, and halogen of atomic weight less than 80, and n is a positive integer from 0 to 2 inclusive; characterized in that it comprises the steps of: (A) converting a 1-benzyl-3-phenyl-3-pyrrilidinol of the formula: **(See formula)** where R1 and n have the meanings indicated above, to a 3-phenylpyrrolidine of the formula: **(See formula)** where R1 and n have the previously assigned values; and (B) reacting the thus obtained 3-phenylpyrrolidines with a compound selected from the group consisting of nitrourea, lower alcohol isothiocyanates, phenyl isocyanates, N, N-diphenylcarbamoyl halides, 2-methyl-2-thioseudourea, Nalogenuro de N-lower alcohol-N-phenylcarbamoyl, lower alkynyl halide, 2-chloromethyl-1,4-benzodioxane, 1-chlorocarbonyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline and 5-chloro-1-chlorocarbonyl indole.
