Abstract

A pressure sensitive adhesive tape preparation process, comprising the steps of forming a backing for the tape based on a stable mixture of 100 parts of a monomer film-forming polymer including at least a major proportion of chloride of vinyl and approximately 30 to 75 parts of non-volatile plasticizing material, melt the mixture of the materials that make up the tape backing, work the melted mixture in a laminator, feed the worked mixture to a calender to transform it into a film of the desired thickness, print this film, apply an adhesive composition on the primer layer, if desired, cut the adhesive-coated film into strips of the desired width that are arranged in a roll, choosing the plasticizer material so that at least 20 parts thereof are made up of an epoxidized fatty acid ester that has: (a) an oxirane index greater than 4%, (b) an iodine number of less than 5, (c) a hydroxyl number of less than 30, and (d) a number average molecular weight of about 600 to 3,000, determined by the vapor pressure method.
