Abstract

Gain of a microphone amplifier T 1 , T 2 in a substation circuit is controlled in dependence on the length of the line to which the circuit is connected by an assembly of diodes D 7 , D 8 connected in series with the balancing network R 1 , R 2 , C 1 , of the substation hybrid, and arranged to shunt the emitter base circuit of the transistor T 2 . C 3 provides for the diode assemblies D 7 and D 8 , which are in series for D.C., to be in parallel in respect of A.C. in the microphone amplifier circuit. Compensation of receiver signal level with line length is provided by the assembly of diodes D 5 , D 6 , which are in series with the D.C. flowing to the substation and also form arms of a bridge circuit feeding the receiver REC. Thermistors TH 1 and TH 2 are provided for temperature compensation. The arrangement of the diode D 6 and Do or D 7 and D 8 in opposed parallel arrangement as regards A.C. provides compensation of their non linearity with signal level.
