Abstract

A method of regenerating the deactivated catalyst, in a hydrocarbon conversion process in which a hydrocarbon and hydrogen charge raw material are simultaneously contacted with a catalyst containing a platinum group component and a sulfur component, in hydrocarbon conversion conditions, and in which carbonaceous materials are deposited on the catalyst, leading to the deactivation thereof, which method comprises the operations of: (a) interrupting the contact of the hydrocarbon feedstock with the catalyst ; (b) reducing the sulfur content of said catalyst to less than about 0.02% by weight, by contacting the catalyst, without any treatment, with a stream of hydrogen substantially free of sulfur and free of water; (c) removing a substantial portion of said carbonaceous materials by treating the catalyst substantially free of sulfur with oxygen; (d) purging free oxygen from the treated catalyst; (e) reducing the platinum group component of the catalyst by contacting it with a stream of hydrogen substantially free of sulfur and free of water; and (f) incorporating sulfur to said catalyst, in an amount of about 0.05 to 0.5%, by contacting the resulting, reduced and treated catalyst, with an oxygen-free sulfiding gas, consisting essentially of hydrogen and hydrogen sulfide.
