Abstract

An apparatus to dehydrate sludge and in general to remove liquid of lower solids content, if any, from a flowing material, which contains liquid as a continuous phase and suspended solids as a discontinuous phase, to produce a material that has a high solids content, said apparatus being characterized by a first endless belt, said elastic and compressible belt being comprised of porous cellular material, means for supporting said belt in various positions, to create an upper portion of the belt, having its outer surface in a plane horizontal, means for moving said endless belt through a path that includes a horizontal upper section, in which the outer surface is in said horizontal plane, means mounted above the upper section of the first belt, in an upstream extreme portion of the first tape, to deliver the flowing material to said upper section of the first tape, means mounted below d the upper section of the first tape, to remove transferable liquid through the first tape, and means to remove the product from which the liquid has been removed from the tape surface to which the flowing material has to be added and downstream of the means to remove the liquid.
