Abstract
A prior process described in Specification 1,135,951 for the production of phosphoric acid and calcium sulphate semihydrate in three stages is modified by the addition of a fourth stage in which the washed CaSO 4 .H 2 O is recrystallized to form gypsum in an aqueous solution at a temperature of 30-70 C., the solution containing 2À5-10% by weight of H 2 SO 4 and having an H 2 SO 4 : P 2 O 5 ratio in the range 0À6- 3À4 : 1 and subsequently separating gypsum crystals from the aqueous solution by filtration, part of the filtrate resulting from the filtration of the gypsum crystals being used as at least part of the third-stage wash for the CaSO 4 .H 2 O.
