Abstract
The damage threshold of glass exposed to laser radiation (e.g. laser rods of doped glass) is increased by treating the glass surface with liquid dimethyl dichlorosilane before such exposure. OH- ions in the glass are replaced by -CH 3 radicals. The glass may be dipped in the liquid for approximately 30 minutes. The glass may subsequently be washed with water or alcohol.
