Abstract
A tundish nozzle used in a continuous casting process consists of ceramically bonded zirconia or zircon partially impregnated with non- colloidal particles of chromic oxide, zirconia or zircon. It has a porosity between 10% and 30% and a pore diameter between 5-100 microns. The non-colloidal particles are from 0À1-5 microns in size and the impregnation extends to a depth of at least 1/ 16 in. The impregnation is produced by immersing the fired nozzles in a water suspension of the given particles and agitating or vibrating the suspension.
