Abstract
In an implosion protection arrangement for a cathode-ray tube having a rectangular faceplate in which at least one layer of metallic, plastics or glass fibre ribbon is wrapped under mechanically induced tension only around the junction between the faceplate and the body of the tube and joined to form an implosion protection band having substantially the same tension as the ribbon during the wrapping process, pressure compensating strips are inserted under the wound ribbon centrally of at least two opposite longer sides of the faceplate. The pressure compensating strips may have a length substantially equal to one third the length of the side of the faceplate over which they are inserted, they may be formed of flexible material and each strip may comprise several pieces. Mountings for securing the tube to associated equipment may be bound to the tube by the ribbon.
