A method of treating and finishing knitted hosiery articles comprising the operations of: placing the socks on lasts and adjusting the socks to a desired length; then subjecting the stocking sock directly to the action of superheated steam at a predetermined temperature and for a predetermined period of time in a zone of dry heat to a predetermined temperature; and then remove the socks from the lasts and match the socks by number, instead of by length.
