Abstract

A polymer of a conjugated diene is reacted with an organometallic compound of lithium, sodium or potassium and an organic compound containing one halogen atom or three or more halogen atoms of which at least two halogen atoms are on a terminal carbon atom so as to increase its molecular weight. Suitably a live polymer of the diene can be used as its own organometallic compound optionally with the addition of extra organometallic compound. Exemplified halogen compounds are carbon tetrachloride and secondary butyl chloride.
