Abstract
In a vertical, or substantially vertical loom, the cloth beam 25 is arranged above the warp beam 11, the shuttle 19 (Fig. 3) takes weft from a bobbin (not shown) outside the shed and passes between fixed boxes 24, 20 (Fig. 2) and the healds 16 controlling the warp yarns 13 are actuated from a dobby at the side of the loom through a linkage 32c arranged between the two beams. The warp yarns pass from the beam 11 under a guide and tensioning roller 14, acted upon by springs 27a, through the healds 17 and reed 18 towards the cloth 15. The cloth then passes over a support 101, around a take-up roller 100 with a presser 102, over a weft straightening guide on a cross member 3 and onto the beam 35 driven by conventional means. The slay 8, comprises two tubular halves interconnected at a central bearing and carrying arms 50 supporting a reed carrier 51. The reed 18 comprises teeth 18a arranged in a curved form and recessed at 40 to provide guidance for the shuttle 19. When the slay is in its lower position the recess 40 lies opposite the shuttle boxes 24 and 20 and the shuttle is projected through the shed along the curved path provided by the reed from the drive box 24 by a wheel 23. The shuttle is received in box 20 and returned along a return passage 22 outside the shed by a wheel 21 for another pick. The slay is actuated by cams on each side of the loom for the beat-up during which the recess 40 of the reed moves out of the shed. The healds 16 may be curved or bend under their own weight as in Fig. 2 and be guided by lateral guides 70 and if desired intermediate guides 71. They may be actuated at two spaced points by levers coupled to the linkage 32c. The linkage 32c is housed in a casing 90, the size of which may be adjusted to accommodate further linkages for additional healdframes. A warp stop motion comprises droppers which engage pairs of crossed warps and are normally held by the frictional contact with the warps clear of electrical contacts in an electrical circuit controlling the drive of the loom.
