A high voltage fuel cell arrangement comprising unitary electrolyte means having an oxidizing face and a fuel face, means providing the presence of an oxidizing reagent next to the oxidizing side of said electrolyte means, means providing the presence of a combustible reagent next to the fuel face of said electrolyte means, a plurality of laterally spaced pairs of opposing electrode means, each of said pairs of electrode means including oxidizing electrode means adjacent to said oxidizing face and electrode means of fuel beside said fuel face, the part of said electrolyte means interposed between the opposing electrode means of each pair providing an ionically conductive path therebetween, and electron transfer means connecting a plurality of said electrically spaced pairs of electrode means serially.
