Abstract

Compositions for care of the oral cavity comprise 'particles of a water insoluble plastics material with a size of less than 50 microns, which contain absorbed flavouring material. Plastics materials may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polymethyl methacrylate, or a co-polymer of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl alcohol. Flavouring materials may be menthol, peppermint, spearmint (carvone), wintergreen, or anethole, or mixtures thereof. The compositions may be a dentifrice in the form of a liquid, paste, powder, tablets or a solid block, or may constitute a mouthwash other ingredients conventional for such forms "may be present. The compositions are prepared by contacting 'particles of plastics material with .the flavouring agent, if necessary together with a solvent or another flavouring agent capable of being absorbed by the plastics material (e.g. propylene, glycol, glycerine, cineole or spearmint oil), optionally separating the particles from excess flavouring agent and solvent and incorporating them in an oral. composition.
