Abstract
Effervescent tablets which contain at least one test reagent or diagnostic agent to be dispersed in an aqueous liquid comprise a core and at least one covering layer, each containing a water-soluble dye, the colour produced by the dye in the core on solution in water being different from that produced by the dye in the covering layer(s). The test reagent or diagnostic agent is present in at least the covering layer(s) and the effervescent materials are present in the core and/or covering layer(s).ALSO:Effervescent tablets which contain at least one active agent to be dispersed in an aqueous liquid comprise a core and at least one covering layer, each containing a water-soluble dye, the colour produced by the dye in the core on solution in water being different from that produced by the dye in the covering layer(s). The active agent is present in at least the covering layer(s) and the effervescent materials are present in the core and/or covering layer(s). The active agent may be a therapeutic agent for internal or external use, a laxative, a vitamin preparation, an antacid/analgesic mixture, a stringent, antiseptic, mouth wash, gargle, or dentifrice. A typical example describes a tablet having an inner core of paracetamol, sodium ascorbate, citric acid, NaHCO3, and water-soluble dye and an outer coat of acetylsalicylic acid, citric acid, NaHCO3, and another water-soluble dye.
