The method of manufacturing an electret comprising preheating a polyethylene terephthalate body to a temperature of about 90º C to about 170º C, for a period of at least one minute, subjecting said body to an electric field maintained at about 0.5-300 kilovolts per centimeter, while maintaining said temperature for a period of about 5 minutes to about 1000 hours, and then allowing the polyethylene terephthalate body to cool to a temperature of about 20º C to about 30º C, while maintaining said electric field and , then, separate the polyethylene terephthalate from said electric field.
