Abstract

A series of foraminous moulds are passed through one or more pulp slurries, each mould being provided with facial areas which are independently operable to cause vacuum deposition. To make a dish having a relatively thick central portion 44 vacuum is applied initially to a central chamber 26, Fig. 1 (not shown), and then also to a peripheral chamber 30 of each mould 12. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the arrangement is such that an article having a thickened peripheral portion may be formed.
