"Process for the preparation of a herbicidal composition in the form of a concentrate", characterized by: (1) dissolving or suspending a hydroxybenzonitrile derivative which is 3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile, or 3,5-dibromo-4- hydroxybenzonitrile, or both, in a homogeneous solvent consisting of one or more non-acid organic solvents and sufficiently miscible in water to give stable mixtures homogeneous therewith, containing at least 10% by volume of water, and optionally water; and (2) adding to the solution or suspension prepared in step (1) an alkali metal derivative which converts the hydroxybenzonitrile derivative into the corresponding alkali metal salt, and if desired or necessary, another amount of water; to the organic solvent and the total amount of water being such that a solution of the alkali metal salt of the hydroxybenzonitrile derivative is obtained in a homogeneous mixture of solvents constituted by water and the solvent or organic solvents.
