Abstract

A curved cine projection screen has a series of adjacent vertical panels 1, each carrying a number of curved overlapping light-diffusing alloy strips 5a, 5b whose angular setting about their vertical axes changes progressively so that each strip lies in a plane normal to the axis of film projection. Strips 5 are held in shoulders 7, 10 of upper and lower wooden plastics or metal shoes 2, 3 by plates 6 which are bolted to stubs 8 to the shoes. The width of curved shoulders 7, 10 decreases from one end to the other to provide the varying inclination of each strip as shown in Fig. 2. Each strip is attached at an intermediate position to a wooden support 4 by means of band passing through the strip and round the notches shown. Panels 1 are secured side-by-side on a frame. In a modification, the frame is not used and panels 20a, 20b &c., formed with light-diffusing ribs on their surfaces are clamped together at 26 to form a self-supporting screen structure. In this case, the ribs vary in inclination only from one panel to the next, and the curvature of each panel may be varied by means of screw tension rods fitted between rear-projecting lugs on each panel. In further modifications, the curvature of the screen on horizontal sections decreases from top to bottom. Curvature in vertical planes may be introduced by placing shims between the shoes of Fig. 1 and the strips.
