Abstract

A wavelength division multiplexing or demultiplexing optical coupler includes optical element (18) having a convex spherical surface (22) on one end and a diffraction grating (26) on a portion of its other end. The remaining portion of its other end receives a multiple fibre array (12) for transmitting and receiving the light to be multiplexed or demultiplexed.
