Abstract
Improvements introduced in the manufacture of incandescent lamps, characterized in that they comprise a closed envelope of transmission of light, a filament that can be incandescent in said envelope, composed of the carbide of a metal of the group consisting of tantalum, hafnium, niobium and zirconium and mixtures thereof, a source of hydrogen in said shell, and a quantity of free carbon within said shell, said free carbon being within the effective range of the atomic hydrogen formed in the vicinity of said filament and migrating thereto. Source of free carbon to effect a cyclic reaction by formation of carbon gas available for thermal decomposition in the vicinity of said filament, to release carbon to react with said filament so that its carbon content is maintained at a fixed value desired and also to release hydrogen for the continuation of the cyclical reaction.
