Abstract

In a sealing assembly for a rod duct (13), there is provided a sealing ring (11) having an approximately rectangular cross-section which is inserted into an annular groove (2) of the rod duct (13), whose lateral surfaces (4, 5) extend perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis (3) of the rod (1) and whose bottom surface comprises a web (6) projecting perpendicularly relative to the rod axis (3), the bottom being formed by the intersection of a first and a second truncated-cone shaped rotational surface (7, 8). The volume of the rectangular sealing ring (11) and its diameters are so dimensioned that the sealing ring (11) exerts a radial pressure on the rod (1) in the area of a plane (10), which latter extends through the sectional edge (9) of the two rotational surfaces (7, 8), the radial pressure being higher than the pressure by the action of which the lateral portions of the sealing ring abut on the rod (1).
