Abstract

4-Methyl-5,6-dihydro-(2H)-pyran is prepared by isomerising 4-methylene tetrahydropyran in the presence of a dehydrating catalyst at a temperature between 200 and 400 DEG C. A suitable catalyst is, for example, phosphoric acid deposited on a support. If desired the 4-methylene tetrahydropyran may be diluted with inert gases such as nitrogen, steam or hydrocarbons.
