Abstract

A shaft seal, suitable for use with rollers 2 of belt conveyors, includes a sealing element 9, having a sealing edge portion 37 engageable with an associated shaft 5. At least two coaxial guard elements 10, 11 are disposed on one side of said sealing element. These guard elements are axially spaced apart and are each so apertured at 26, 32 as to be a close clearance fit upon the shaft.
