Abstract

Como se muestra, el IRD 110 de ejemplo de la FIG. 6, que recibe una entrada del LNB 405, incluye cualquier variedad de tarjeta(s) de receptor de satélite 602, cualquier variedad de tarjeta(s) de audio/vídeo 604 y cualquier variedad de tarjeta(s) de red 606, cada una de las cuales puede acoplarse a una placa base 608. La tarjeta descodificadora de audio/vídeo 604 incluye un descodificador de audio/vídeo 630, un controlador de salida NTSC y/o ATSC 632 opcional, y un controlador de salida de adaptador gráfico de vídeo (VGA) 634. Como se describe más adelante en detalle, la tarjeta receptora de satélite 602 puede recibir y la tarjeta de audio/vídeo 604 puede descodificar la señal recibida del LNB 405.
En operación, una señal de entrada del LNB 405 es recibida por la tarjeta receptora de satélite 602 y pasa a través de una serie de operaciones de procesamiento inicial que incluyen el módulo de extremo frontal 510 y el módulo de transporte 520. Aunque no se ilustran los circuitos funcionales dentro del módulo de transporte 520, pueden, por ejemplo, ser idénticos a aquellos descritos anteriormente a propósito de la FIG. 5. Por ejemplo, el módulo de transporte 520 recibe la corriente de transporte o secuencia de bits de paquetes de datos digitalizados que contienen información de vídeo, audio, programación, y otros datos. El módulo de transporte 520 pasa los datos al descodificador de audio/vídeo 630 de la tarjeta del descodificador de vídeo/audio 604. Los datos de interés autorizados se almacenan en la RAM del sistema (no mostrada) para el almacenamiento en memoria intermedia, y el descodificador de vídeo/audio 630 recupera los datos de la RAM según se necesite. Para datos de vídeo, el descodificador de audio/vídeo 630 lee los datos de vídeo codificados de su RAM, y, usando cualquiera de una variedad de técnicas y/o métodos, descodifica los datos de vídeo codificados y guarda los datos de vídeo resultantes en una memoria de trama en la RAM del descodificador de vídeo. Un tiempo después, la imagen puede leerse de la memoria de trama y pasarse a través de la circuitería de visualización al controlador de salida VGA 634 y opcionalmente al controlador de salida NTSC y/o ATSC 632, cuya salida puede acoplarse al dispositivo de visualización 138. La circuitería de visualización también puede generar gráficas y texto para una interfaz de usuario gráfica (GUI), tal como una guía de programas electrónica, para ser visualizada.
Aunque no se muestra, una cualquiera o más de las tarjetas 602-608 puede incluir uno o más procesadores para ejecutar las instrucciones legibles por máquina que pueden usarse para implementar los métodos, procesos, aparato y/o sistemas de ejemplo descritos en el presente documento. En el sistema 100 de ejemplo ilustrado, el HDD 425 de los IRDs 110a-110n de ejemplo de las FIGS. 4-6 se divide en al menos dos particiones.
