Actualmente los buceadores deportivos, al finalizar su inmersion y regresar a la superficie, realizan una parada de seguridad, cuyo fin es liberar progresivamente el nitrogeno acumulado en sangre antes de salir a la superficie y encontrarse de nuevo a l atmosfera de presion, para ello se detiene el ascenso a 5 metros durante 3 minutos (estas cifras pueden variar) y segun la normativa de cada pals o zona, es obligatorio senalizar la posicion de dicho buceador, para facilitar su recogida mediante botes neumaticos o auxiliares y transportar al/los buceadores al barco principal. Hoy en dla esta practica se lleva a cabo con boyas de senalizacion, infladas de forma manual con aire comprimido, procedente del mismo tanque del que respira el buceador.
