Abstract

Compounds and compositions comprising carbon nanotubes and compounds of formula (I) and their use as contrast agents. Compounds comprising carbon nanotubes and paramagnetic gadolinium chelates (III), derivatives of 1,4,7,10-tetraaza-1,4,7,10-cyclododecanotetraacetic acid (dota). These compounds are useful as contrast agents for nuclear magnetic resonance, a technique used to obtain images for clinical diagnosis and to provide alternative anisotropic contrast agents to those commonly used. The present invention relates to compounds comprising carbon nanotubes and compounds of formula (I), where the presence of a pyrene ring is indispensable for the formation of adducts through bonds π - π with carbon nanotubes, mono or multilayer and of length between 150 and 300 nm. R is selected, inter alia, by aliphatic amides, diamino derivatives, polyethylene glycol, alkyl squarate, and polyethylene glycol derivatives linked to dota monoamide.
