An improved vehicle seat comprising a seat part which includes a seat proper and a backrest, a base part, and means connecting the seat part with the base part said means comprising a spring suspension by means of the which the backrest is supported on the base part and which is effective to restrict the movement of the backrest to a substantially vertical direction, the suspension including a spring and a plurality of structural elements, characterized in that certain of said elements connect the seat itself with the backrest for movement around at least two horizontal transverse axes through instantaneous centers of rotation, said centers being the instantaneous centers of rotation of the thigh of a seat occupant in relation to any two parts of the seat that move one relative to another during the ascending and descending movement of the part of seat relative to the base part, the thigh of the occupant of the seat being movable longitudinally and pivotably in such a way that the articulation axis of the ankle of the occupant of the seat remains stationary relative to the base part.
