Abstract

Catheter for hydrocephalus treatment. # This is a catheter design that is characterized by having a variable number of holes (2) in the different drain rings (3), so that the uniformity of the fluid passage is favored through the catheter (1), while minimizing the possibility of blockage of holes (2) and redistributing the flow is possible in case any of said holes (2) is blocked, thus extending the life of the device. Two possible hole distribution configurations (2) are also described based on some guidelines described for the distribution of holes (2) in rings (3), differentiated in terms of separation between rings (3), number of holes (2) in each of said rings (3) and rotation thereof.

A catheter formed by a hollow tube (1) of 2.5 mm outer diameter and 1.5 mm inner diameter is provided, which will have a total of 24 holes (2) and 6 drain rings (3 ), 1 being the ring (3) closest to the tip (or closed end) of the catheter (4). The main feature of this design is that the rings are grouped two to two, forming

Thus, rings 1 and 2 are grouped in a first strip (5), called distal, separated 1 mm from each other. Rings 3 and 4 are grouped in an intermediate strip (5), separated 1 mm from each other. Finally, rings 5 and 6 are grouped in a third strip (5), called proximal, also separated 1 mm from each other. The two rings of the distal stripe (5) have 6 holes each, decreasing this number to 4 in the fringe (5)
