Abstract
<PICT:0853648/IV(a)/1> An apparatus for the melt-spinning of artificial threads comprises a horizontal flat plate 10 (Fig. 1) in which are mounted spinnerets (not shown), and a movable elongated metal blow box assembly 11 which, in the operating position, is urged against the flat bottom of plate 10. The assembly 11 comprises a vertical spinning shaft or cabinet 12 of square or rectangular horizontal cross section and a blow chest or chamber 13 (Figs. 1 and 2). A wall 14 integrally forms three sides of the chamber 13 and is bolted to the spaced parallel side walls 15 and 16 of the cabinet 12 which is divided into four spinning compartments 18, 20, 21 and 22 open at the bottom and top. A wire screen door 23 is hinged in the front of cabinet 12. Air or other suitable cooling gas is supplied upwardly under slight pressure through a port 24 in the bottom plate 25 of the blow chest 13. The top of the chamber 13 is closed by contact with the bottom of the plate 10 and a cloth 26 permeable to air is removably positioned between the spinning cabinet 12 and the blow chest 13 in substantially air tight engagement with the walls 15 and 16 and plates 10 and 25 of the assembly 11. The cloth 26 is mounted on a detachable rectangular frame of metal rods 27 (Figs. 2 and 3) strengthened by cross-rods 28. The cloth 26 is preferably a felt made of wool and rayon in the form of a flat bag which fits snugly in the frame 27. The assembly 11 may be pivotally mounted on a fixed support 30 by means of metal brackets 31 and a shaft 32. When the porosity of the felt cloth 26 becomes excessively reduced due to contamination with dust, spinning is discontinued, the assembly 11 is tilted backwards, into the position shown in Fig. 1 by broken lines and the frame 27 carrying the cloth 26 is removed upwards from the assembly 11 and replaced by another frame carrying a clean cloth.
