Abstract

An impregnating composition comprises a melamine-formaldehyde resin modified by inclusion of 0,1 to 10% by weight of the resin of finely-divided silica. The silica may be amorphous and have a particle size of between 15 and 20 millimicrons. The composition may be applied from aqueous solution at a pH of at least 8,0.
