Abstract

The invention relates to a flexible drum brush made from palm tree fibre for drums and percussion, comprising a drumstick for musical/percussive use and consisting of a plurality of palm core fibres which have irregular cross-sections and sharp or flat edges and are mounted longitudinally to form a shaft. The drum brush has two ends, namely: one end forming the handle which is made from a heat-shrink material and topped with flexible PVC, and the other end forming the striker and having a movable ring to provide a greater richness of tone depending on where the performer positions said ring on the aforementioned shaft. The irregular thickness of the raw material allows each pair of drumsticks to be customised exclusively for the user since the point of equilibrium or the centre of gravity can be adjusted during the production process.

Description

Flexible drumstick Palm fiber for drums and percussion.

The present invention relates to a drumstick with musician-percussive utility, formed by a plurality of palm marrow rods, thanks to which they get some remarkable improvements of interpretation of pieces of percussion, both in relation to the attack or response time, as in the evolutionary nature of the bell in relation to wear of the material, as well as in possible uses parallel to the mere interpretation, such as warm-up or didactics of instrument, hitting between the pair, etc.

Antecedentes de la invenciónBackground of the invention

The drumsticks they use are known usually woods like birch and be in infinity of thicknesses, sizes and finishes, being common feature the fact of using cylindrical rods regardless of wood or the shape of its firing end. In general these types of drumsticks are balanced so that its center of gravity is located in the middle part of the drumstick, with which there is no optimum adaptation of the instrument to the profile and experience of the instrumentalist (with centers of gravity more focused on Novice players, or located at the ends in the case of more experienced interpreters, when they look for more nuances musicals). In addition, the use or wear of drumsticks causes notable deterioration in the timbre and the musical quality of the pieces to interpret, which leads to its subsequent disposal. On the other hand, the Regular drumsticks usually have rounded ends or "acorn", which considerably reduces the "attack" or sound response time to the impact of a drumstick on a percussion surface, depending on the caliber you have.

To avoid the inconvenience of this type of drumsticks, the holder of the present invention, Mr. Miguel Ángel Lloreda Cruz, after a remarkable search for alternative materials to the conventional drumsticks, located the palm marrow fiber, whose fundamental characteristics are the following: material uneven, irregular or non-uniform (heteroclite), which promotes its quasi-artisanal treatment to locate the center of gravity individually in each pair; conformation with natural fibers whose hair vessels are fraying and achieving with it softer sounds; and with ends at right angles and irregular sections of straight or live edges, with obvious consequences for the purpose of the "attack" or time of answers.

Descripción de la invenciónDescription of the invention

The flexible drumstick is of the type of ROD drumsticks for use as a striking tool on Any percussion instrument. From this embodiment, the main raw material is constituted by a plurality of natural fibers attached at one end, unlike drumsticks Conventional made of a single piece of rigid wood.

Specifying the type of material used in your construction, it is natural palm kernel fiber, cut with straight edge or live with an irregular section, made that causes the friction between the rods to get a very characteristic click, which greatly enriches the loudness of the instrument in a double sense: one by its own loudness as individual drumstick, and two for contact with the instrument percussion.

Since the palm marrow has a accentuated irregularity in its thickness, this allows, depending from the cutting area, an exclusive drumstick is obtained depending on where the center of gravity is located. This is a feature fundamental given that any new instrumentalist will have more facility with a balanced center of gravity and located in the area center of the drumstick, as this allows greater control of the same. However, an experienced instrumentalist will prefer center of gravity locations more displaced towards extremes to get better nuances. Normal drumsticks they usually have their center of gravity fixed in the central zone or in the extremes However, our invention gives the possibility of choose, according to the physiognomy of the rods and their material, which the drumstick is fully balanced or allow a displacement and a mobility from the center of gravity to the firing end of the stick-brush, getting a noticeable increase in volume obtained with minimal effort, without losing the rebound Natural from a normal drumstick. This gives this invention a greater flexibility and universal use, being able to be used by any type of musician regardless of level, with so just choose the displacement or not of said center of gravity and Adapt it to your needs.

The "attack" of a drumstick is the time of Sound response to the impact of the sound on a surface of percussion. Normally the usual drumsticks usually have about rounded ends or "acorn", which reduces considerably the "attack" and that response time, according to the caliber you have ("attack" and "warmth" are usually inversely proportional variables in the world of percussion). However, the "attack" is markedly accentuated in case of drumsticks, like the one of the present invention, with angled ends straight, and even more if it is formed by a group of rods (as it is the case) all of them with irregular sections of straight edges or alive This property, in the case of the present brush-drumstick has its greatest expression when the center of gravity approaches the firing point, getting with it complex rhythmic exercises than other types of Brush drumsticks cannot perform.

Its timbre is "evolutionary", which makes be the only drumstick that has this feature, thanks to material used Thus, after normal wear and tear due to use prolonged, any drumstick remarkably loses its qualities musical, due to the material's own wear and tear rods (in the case of brush drumsticks). Without However, in the present invention, this circumstance becomes in a great asset for this instrument, since being built with natural palm-marrow fibers, the hair vessels of these fibers are frayed or detached from each other (without that there are broken rods) appearing hairs that provide a wide range of fluffy and even more musical different sounds without losing its fundamental characteristics, while increasing adaptation to the different musical styles and way of interpreting. This characteristic is thus also unique.

Near its firing end is placed a mobile clip of an elastic material that when moved on the rod pack gets one or another range of sounds according to where it is placed, since when moving and acting dynamically encourages their musical properties while respecting their main features before wear. The seizure or the release of a greater or lesser length of rods allows the maximum range of nuances or expressions.

Any percussionist, by learning and practicing his technique, as well as "warm up" before an interpretation, usually not only on the percussion instrument or the drums itself, but on any surface (a cushion or even your own body). The "bounce" property, in this above use, is seen decreased on certain types of surface non-musical or non-percussive. Without however, it is interesting (as in practice pads) to exercise basis that these drumsticks can hit on any surface and get a neutral response (no bounce and almost no sound) with Very little volume The present invention provides a great advantage. regarding normal drumsticks in this regard, all thanks to his dissipative property. This allows the performer to exercise the dolls anywhere, anytime, without have a surface specifically percussive musician.

Drummers or percussionists can rely on the bell that gives off the material of the present invention, for that when percussed against any surface, they create music, thanks to the property of generating a sound close to the spectrum human audible and with a weighted harmonic display. Thus, the beating two of these palm marrow drumsticks brings a own and differentiated musicality, with rich percussive nuances, varied and differentiated with respect to striking on a surface of habitual percussion

The manufacture of this drumstick is made of completely handmade and manual. They take a group of rods of marrow of palm of a certain length (1) and a weight specific (see figure 5), previously cut from the rod original 180 cm long approximately. They are sorted by hand according to thickness and weight in order to place the weight or center of gravity in specific areas located between the firing end (see Figure 2) and the middle part of the drumstick, according to the qualities techniques that you want to develop with each specific pair of drumsticks.

They are fastened with tape starting from what will be the handle base During this process it is given a form quasi-cylindrical to the whole considering that these are rods with flat or live edges of sections irregular (see figure 3). Then a cover is applied heat shrink which, when heated and contracted, forms the handle of the drumstick (see figures 1 and 4 (3)).

An adhesive is applied to the end of the handle instant and a flexible PVC plug is placed, as seen in Figures 1 and 4 (4), which will give, together with the glue, more consistency if it fits the whole. Then the clip is placed (2) that regulates the drummer's percussive dynamics.

The described process should be understood as the basic manufacturing protocol of the present invention, being perfectly feasible to reproduce said protocol with colors and different thicknesses, obtaining aesthetically infinite models of the drumstick, always starting from the base element of this invention which is the palm kernel fiber material.
