Abstract

Procedure of trimming the pieces of a puzzle

The invention consists of a method for trimming the pieces of a puzzle on a set consisting of a sheet of ethylene vinyl foam, commonly referred to as "EVA foam", each of whose faces is covered with a sheet of paper, presenting at least one of them a printed image to cut and forming the set an iron.

The invention also consists of books for children in which each of its pages is constituted by one of said assemblies, which may constitute a single plate manufactured as a puzzle game.

Sets of this type have different characteristics depending on the materials used.

EVA foam can have different densities and therefore vary between very flexible and very rigid.

The paper attached to the EVA foam sheet can be thin or thick paper, or even cardboard.

If the paper is too thin, it will tear when glued on a foam that is too flexible.

The plate will be warped when cut to obtain the puzzle pieces.

To cut the pieces of a puzzle on one of these plates, therefore, different techniques must be used depending on of the materials used. Traditionally the technique is as follows:

The sheet of paper or cardboard is glued on one of the sides of the EVA foam sheet that is trimmed by means of a cut-out form made of a plywood sheet on which the cutter blades that form a matrix are fixed .

The plate, formed by the EVA foam sheet and the sheet of paper or cardboard, is placed on the marble of the cutting press, so that the sheet of paper is facing up. Pressure is then exerted against the clipping die. Then, pieces of foam located between the blades of the die push the cut pieces out of the die.

Finally, a second sheet of paper or cardboard is glued on the other side of the EVA foam sheet.

The drawback of this procedure is that the knife first cuts the paper, that is, cuts the paper before the foam. Consequently, upon removal of the die, the edge of the cut paper is lifted and the resulting puzzle pieces are rapidly damaged by paper separation.

On the other hand, users generally do not take into account the density of the EVA foam, as well as the type of paper they use and often do not wait for the glue to be completely dry. All this has an important influence on the final result.

The objective of the invention is to alleviate these inconveniences, facilitating a method of trimming the pieces of an EVA foam puzzle.

According to the invention the procedure described below allows obtaining a correct result whatever the material used.

Two possibilities of carrying out the process object of the invention are proposed:

one.

The assembly is placed in the cutter with the printed sheet facing up so that the cut begins with the printed sheet.

2.

The set is placed in the cutter press with the printed sheet facing down, to start the cut by EVA foam.

The trimming technique is as follows:

An EVA foam sheet of the same density as the sheet to be trimmed (or between 10% and 20% more) is placed over the entire cutting die, allowing it to protrude between 15mm and 20mm outside the blades.

This foam must cover the cutting blades in height in order to exert a pressure on the foam to be cut before cutting. In the case that the puzzle was very thick, some holes could be made in the foam to be cut.

If problems arise due to an EVA foam of too light density and / or too thin paper, the assembly to be trimmed could be turned over, in order to first trim the EVA foam and finish the operation with the cut of the paper placed against The marble of the clipping press. This way it is not possible to tear the paper.

According to figure 1, the puzzle plate has a peripheral part that forms a frame within which the cut pieces 4 of a puzzle appear. The pieces 4 are separated from each other by cutting lines 3, generally perpendicular or parallel to each other. The set of pieces is separated from the frame by a cutting line 5 of general rectangular shape. Figure 2 shows a sheet 1 of EVA foam on which a sheet of paper or cardboard 2 bearing a printed image has been pasted; and Figure 3 schematically shows a book whose pages are constituted by puzzle plates made according to the invention.

In all embodiments it is essential that the sheet of paper be well adhered to the foam sheet. Therefore, wait the necessary time for the tail to dry.

It is also necessary to ensure that the foam sheet is uniformly pressed before the cutting blade acts on the paper and then on the foam.

In all cases the procedure is ended by gluing the sheet of paper or cardboard on the face of the foam sheet opposite the carrier face of the puzzle.

For the realization of a book, several puzzle plates are bound together, as shown in Figure 3.

According to a particular feature of the invention, shown in Figure 4, the sheet of paper or cardboard carrying the image of the puzzle on a page 2, can have a surface double that of this page, thus constituting the other part of the sheet 6 the sheet of the face opposite the puzzle of the preceding page, such that part 7 of the sheet between the two pages constitutes a hinge between them. You can also stick a spine on the part of the book carrying the hinges to reinforce the cohesion of the pages with each other.

Procedure of trimming the pieces of a puzzle on a set consisting of a sheet of ethylene vinyl foam (EVA), one of whose faces is previously covered by a sheet of paper or cardboard that presents a printed image to be cropped, characterized in that the cutting of the pieces of the puzzle (3, 4, 5) is carried out in a cutting matrix in which an EVA foam sheet is placed, at least of the same density as the sheet to be cut, on the entire cutting die, leaving it protruding outward from the blades, presenting the assembly either with the EVA foam sheet (1) turned up or with the paper or cardboard sheet (2) turned up, depending of the material used, to then press against the cutting die and then glue a second sheet of paper or cardboard on the opposite side of the EVA foam sheet.
